Baraboo Country Club is a Semi-Private 18 hole golf course located in Baraboo, Wisconsin, 30 minutes north of Madison, Wisconsin.
Baraboo Golf Course opened in 1961.The course was designed by Larry Packard.
Nestled at the foot of the Baraboo Bluffs, this scenic course plays tougher than expected. The layout of this course is pretty unique as both nines start off with a Par 3 hole, then there are three Par 5’s and three Par 3’s on the front nine and the last six holes on the back nine are all Par 4’s. There are several creeks in the way but you can normally retrieve your ball quite easily. Watch out for the areas outlined in white as these are Indian burial mounds and should not be driven over or walked upon. Think twice about walking this course unless you are fit as there are quite a few uphill plays and walks and greens with big sloping sides.
Overlooking the bluffs of Devil's Lake State Park, Baraboo Country Club offers the widest views of this pristine portion of the Wisconsin Dells area. Draper Creek meanders throughout the golf course connecting Devil's Lake to the Baraboo River, creating challenging water features on nine out of 18 championship caliber holes. The clubhouse offers spectacular views of the Baraboo Bluffs so plan an extra hour at the 19th! The Baraboo Range, a National Natural Landmark, is the longest inland glacial mountain range in the Midwest.
The Draper Creek Indian Burial Mound Group, estimated to be over 1000 years old, protected and preserved, offers a distinct feel of the rich history of Baraboo. And in keeping with the area's concern for wildlife habitat management, Baraboo Country Club has created a haven for birds and small game, while seeking to achieve Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary status through Audubon International.
Par for the course is 72. From the back tees the course plays to 6570 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 5681 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 14, a par-5 that plays to 531 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 16, a par-3 that plays to 163 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 14, a 531 yard par-5 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Baraboo Golf Course is # 5, a 185 yard par-3.
# 8, the Par 5 signature hole, will give you one of the best golfing experiences available. The hole requires a drive over water to a generous landing area, dog-legging left to another landing area, tightened by woods, water and Indian Mounds, then left, straight uphill, through a narrow opening to a shallow, blind, forward sloping green, bunkered in front and back. If that's not enough, the slick green breaks severely from back to front, giving the golfer fits after a most trying adventure just to get on!
